Consider Giving Cash

Although this is a personal decision, there are times when it makes good sense to do this instead of purchasing them another gift that is meaningless to them. To understand just how much this will affect you, you must take into consideration your own thoughts and feelings as well as your relationship with the person that you are buying for. Sometimes it is good to give cash. In other situations, though, it could even be considered insulting to the couple.
When It's Not So Great
Sometimes, giving a gift of cash can cause a few rifts in your family. If you are very close to someone and they are getting married, cash may seem like an okay idea. But, that person is not really looking at how much you are spending on them for their wedding present. Instead, they are looking at what you are doing for them. If you spend less and give a gift that is more meaningful to the relationship that the two of you share, this makes much more sense. In the long term, you will find this to be quite rewarding to both of you.
When It's Fine
As a wedding present, many people do give cash at the actual wedding. During the wedding shower, on the other hand, this is not as common. Giving cash is not something that you really want to do here unless you know that is what is needed. If you know that the couple really need to funds to help them to make that down payment on their new home, it makes more sense. In addition, cash can be more appropriate to give a couple that has all that they need as they may have already been living on their own.
In the end, the decision to give cash is one that you must make yourself. If you venture out and decide that perhaps giving a gift is something that you just do not want to do, then go with it. While there are times when it will work just fine, there are others when it will not. Think about your feelings as well as the couple's when making this decision about wedding gifts.
